Alberta Centennial Education Savings (ACES)

Alberta Centennial Education Savings (ACES) – For beneficiaries born or adopted by a resident of Alberta on or after January 1, 2005. This Provincial Grant can add up to $800 to your RESP.

The Alberta Government has announced the closure of the Alberta Centennial Education Savings Plan (ACES) grant program. All grant applications must be received by July 31, 2015. Children of Alberta residents that were born before April 1, 2015 who are under the age of 6 may be eligible to apply for the $500.00 grant. As well, grants of $100.00 are available to children of Alberta residents who turned 8, 11 and/or 14 on or before March 31, 2015 provided that the children are attending school and a new application is submitted.

The ACES Plan will contribute $500 into the Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) of every child born to Alberta residents in 2005 and later. As well, grants of $100 are available to children of Alberta residents when they turn 8, 11 and 14 in 2005 and later, provided that the children are attending school.

The Alberta $500 Grant is available to a child who meets all of these requirements:

  • was born or adopted in 2005 or later;
  • has a parent or guardian who is a resident of Alberta when the child was born OR is a resident of Alberta at the time of application, and who is ordinarily present in Alberta; and
  • is named as the beneficiary of an individual RESP account or named as a beneficiary of a family RESP account where all members are siblings.

The Alberta $100 Grants are available to a child who meets all of these requirements:

  • is named as the beneficiary of an individual RESP account or named as a beneficiary of a family RESP account where all members are siblings;
  • turns 8, 11 or 14 in 2005 or later;
  • has a parent or guardian who is a resident of Alberta at the time of application and who is ordinarily present in Alberta;
  • attending a school that is accepted by the Minister of Alberta Advanced Education and Technology; and
  • for whom a deposit of at least $100 has been made into an RESP within the 12 months prior to each application.

Note: Children who are home-schooled are also eligible to receive the Alberta $100 grants.
